In 1839 a spa tradition came into existence when the Grand Dutchess, Marie Louise of Austria (second wife of Napoleon I) founded the baths of Salsomaggiore. An underground lake, buried 1200 meters below the fertile Po Valley in Italy, had been used as a source of salt since the Celtic and Roman times.
The Minestral certified waters contain a very high content of saline and a salt water density three times that of the Dead Sea. It is this very high content of Bromine and Iodine found in these waters that provided the therapeutic properties which soon became widely known.
To satisfy the demand for the mineral rich water, the Spa of Salsomaggiore was officially opened in the early 1900's. A product line soon followed, based on the water's purifying properties. Offering masks, gels, lotions, tonics, salts and bath oils, this naturally balancing line is now available in the United States.
